A medical interpretation service in Nice for a Chinese patient

Cultures Connection is a translation agency with a strong sense of belonging to Nice. It started working in the city more than 10 years ago and to this day has its headquarters just steps from Place Massena, from where it provides translation and interpreting services to clients all over the world.

The agency is no stranger to what is happening on the Côte d’Azur and feels a strong vocation to respond to the linguistic needs that private and public organizations may have in the region. It has worked on numerous sites, such as the Pasteur Hospital in Nice, for which a medical interpretation was provided in early 2024.

Medical interpretation for a teaching hospital of excellence

The medical interpretation provided by Cultures Connection was intended for the main healthcare institute in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (PACA). The Pasteur Hospital, also known as the University Hospital of Nice, serves an estimated 1.5 million patients. It offers general hospital services and is committed to training, research and scientific innovation. It is one of the largest healthcare campuses in France with some 1500 beds and 7000 professionals.

Last January 26, the translation agency appointed an interpreter to provide a liaison interpretation service for a scheduled medical appointment at the hospital for a Chinese patient.

In order to choose the right professional, a native speaker of Chinese and bilingual in French were chosen to ensure proper communication with the patient and the doctor on duty, respectively. Equally important was that she had knowledge of the medical field to be able to accurately explain the patient’s symptoms and professional observations.

Like any liaison interpreter, the interpreter functioned as a mediator between the parties in an informal setting. Without taking notes, she memorized on the spot what each of the participants said and reproduced them from Chinese to French and from French to Chinese.

As it was a face-to-face meeting with only a few people, no technological equipment was necessary. The interpreter’s empathy and sensitivity in recognizing the concerns of a patient who was unable to communicate his health problems by his own means was essential.

More than 10 years of experience in interpreting services in Nice

Cultures Connection has worked on a wide variety of interpreting services not only in Nice but also throughout the PACA region.

As well as working with the Pasteur Hospital, Cultures Connection was involved in numerous activities promoted by local public organizations. In Nice, the agency participated in meetings for the construction of the futuristic Iconic complex in the Thiers neighborhood. At the regional level, the agency was involved in meetings for business awareness of water use by the Chamber of Crafts and Trades of the PACA region and for the promotion of tourism in Draguignan by Sites & Cités.

The private sector is also his expertise and he has provided several interpretation services for the medical sector. He has been present at the annual meeting of the International Spinal Cord Society at the Acropolis Convention and Exhibition Center in Nice. Participated in the Aesthetic Medicine Congress held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Collaborated in the annual conference held by the European Health Services Distribution Association and held at the Hôtel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion in Cannes.

Organizations choose Cultures Connection for its expertise in multiple work sectors, its excellent professionalism and confidentiality, and its high management capacity and efficiency in the projects in which it participates. In addition, Cultures Connection is flexible and works with budgets tailored to clients’ needs.
