Simultaneous Interpreting in Paris for Women’s Voices on Climate

On April 20, 2026, Cultures Connection supported a multilingual conference at Forum 104 in Paris exploring the connections between climate change and gender equality. Interpreting helped bring together perspectives rooted in communities across several continents.

Organized by CARE France, Réseau Action Climat, Les Impactrices and WECF France, the event formed part of Women 7 advocacy around the G7. Its aim was to give greater visibility to women working on climate adaptation and bring their perspectives into international debate.

Cultures Connection provided simultaneous interpreting between French and English, and between French and Spanish, in both directions.

Five perspectives from the field

The programme introduced five experts and civil society representatives:

  • Gladys Yolanda Guamán Casillas, from Ecuador, whose agroecology work supports rural and Indigenous women.
  • Augustine Rasomahafaly, from Madagascar, a biologist and educator working on the environment, climate and gender.
  • Dr Hoang Thi Ngoc Ha, from Vietnam, a researcher specializing in nature-based solutions and eco-communities.
  • Dorothée Lisenga, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an advocate for women’s land rights and forest governance.
  • Fatou Ndoye, from Senegal, a sociologist and founder of the ecofeminist association Suxali Jigeen.

Their backgrounds gave practical context to the conference themes: access to resources, community resilience, food security and women’s participation in decision-making.

Conveying experience with precision

For interpreters, an event of this kind requires preparation across several connected fields: climate policy, biodiversity, agriculture, women’s rights and development financing.

Accurate terminology matters, alongside the ability to convey a personal experience, explain a technical concept or communicate an advocacy position. Simultaneous interpreting allows listeners to follow these contributions without interrupting the speaker’s delivery.

The photographs from the day show the service in practice: speakers using microphones, participants listening through headsets and the interpreting team working behind its equipment.

Language services for civil society and international events

The conference illustrates the role of interpreting in meetings bringing together associations, specialists and the media. Making discussions accessible across languages gives local experiences a place in international conversations.
