France was chosen as host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024. With 52 sports spread mainly in Paris, but also in other cities around the country, and thousands of athletes from all over the world in attendance, this iconic sporting competition always requires a high level of planning, organization and deployment and the work of an international multidisciplinary team. In order to inform its staff about all the details of the event, the Organizing Committee contracted Cultures Connection to translate internal communication materials from English to Spanish and from French to English.
Cultures Connection, with French offices in Paris and Nice, had to translate a series of presentations for the Spanish and English-speaking Olympic team. Information on sports, venues, schedules, visas and registration for athlete delegations. Explanations on the logistics of transporting sports equipment, ticket sales and amenities for delegations in the Olympic Village. Considerations on anti-doping policy and illegal betting. Digital strategies for environmental commitment, technological innovation in the service of sport and global communication. All these details were translated following the recommendations of a style manual provided by the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games for the correct wording of the texts.
The presentations covered various topics, with ideas and terminology from a wide range of fields including sport, technology, the environment, business and marketing. For this reason, the agency’s translators were recruited for their academic background in each discipline and their experience in previous work with similar international organizations. Linguistic work that is unseen but indispensable for good communication and the success of any large-scale activity such as the Olympic Games.
