The Cannes Film Festival is an unmissable event in the world of cinema. Cultures Connection offers their interpreting services all over the French Riviera.
The world of cinema is marked each year by numerous international festivals, such as the Cannes Film Festival, an unmissable event for professionals in the sector. Whether you are an actor, director, producer or just a spectator, you can’t miss this international event. This year, the 71st Cannes Film Festival takes place from 8 to 19 May 2018, once again in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès on the banks of the Croisette. It took place for the first time in 1947, and the famous “climbing the stairs”, still highly publicized on this famous red carpet, has made it famous throughout the world over the years.
The jury for this 2018 edition will be chaired by Australian actress Cate Blanchett, a regular at the event. She will be accompanied by an increasingly international jury composed of actors, directors and filmmakers from all over the world. During these 12 days, many international films will be screened, 21 of which will be in the running to receive the Palme d’Or, the festival’s main award. The prize will be awarded at the Closing Ceremony on 19 May 2018. Other prizes, such as the Grand Prize or the Jury Prize, are also awarded on this occasion. In addition to the screenings of the various competing films, numerous press conferences, reports, interviews take place during the festival.
As this is an international event, exchanges take place in different languages, notably in English. Conference interpreters offer their services to ensure that speakers can understand each. The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès has six rooms equipped for simultaneous interpretation, equipped with receivers, infrared transmitters, and headphones. This means that, during the festival, the conference interpreter can intervene in real time and translate the speakers’ speeches during the opening and closing ceremonies, for example. The masters of ceremonies, who differ each year, are responsible for hosting the opening and closing evenings of the festival in French, so the work of the conference interpreter is essential to the smooth running of the event.
During interviews or press conferences, when the film presented or the film crew are foreign, conference interpreting is just as essential. Speakers speaking in a foreign language are equipped with headphones. They can thus be understood by the audience and understand the questions asked or the comments made by other participants thanks to the work of the interpreters. Remember, at the 2017 César ceremony, Jean Dujardin played the role of conference interpreter for his friend George Clooney, which gave rise to a funny scene. To avoid these types of situations, call a professional conference interpreter, who will ensure quality work and participate in the success of your event.
The Cultures Connection team offers their interpreting services in Paris, Nice or Cannes, in France, but also in Buenos Aires. Cultures Connection’s interpreters will be professional and will do their utmost to make your event a success. If you are organizing a similar event or you have a language problem, Cultures Connection will be happy to provide conference interpretation services. So don’t hesitate any longer!
