Cultures Connection provided high-quality interpreting services for WWF Chile at a recent panel at UNOC3 in Nice.
WWF Chile and Ocean Conference
The third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) is currently taking place in Nice, France, from June 9 to 13 2025. This year’s theme is the “acceleration of action and mobilisation of all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean.” Co-organized and co-hosted by the governments of France and Costa Rica, the Conference aims to aid in the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Developement Goal 14, Life Below Water. Along with uniting all 193 UN Member States under this common goal, the Ocean Conference is also bringing in NGOs, marine scientists, academic institutions, Indigenous peoples, and more, to participate in dialogue. These dialogues, also known as Ocean Action Panels, are sowing the seeds for a more sustainable world. A world in which we have learned to adopt new ways of living to better coexist with nature.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and its over 100 local offices, are key players in this year’s UNOC. As the world’s largest conservation organization, WWF has been working to help protect local communites and wildlife, on land and in oceans, for over 60 years. Together with UNOC3, WWF may continue moving towards acheiving their goal of “healthy oceans and nature-positive seascapes.” With this in mind, WWF’s Team Ocean came to Nice prepared. Armed with their Team Ocean Playbook, WWF is fighting for 20 recommendations they find key in stopping and reversing the loss of ocean life. Therefore, to participate in this year’s Ocean Action Panels, representatives of WWF’s aforementioned local offices are proudly present. Part of this diverse Team Ocean is WWF Chile.
As UNOC welcomes participants and organizers from all over the world, like WWF Chile, panels are not only multicultural but also multilingual. Other international conferences, and even corportate events, also face this issue. Communication is now global, and multilingual professionals are working hard to bridge linguistic gaps. To ensure that their panels ran smoothly, WWF Chile called upon our services at Cultures Connection. Our transaltion and interpretation agency was of course happy to help!
Simultaneous Interpretation for Conservation
Tuesday June 10, two of our professional simultaneous interpreters accompanied participants at one of WWF Chile’s Ocean Action Panels. As part of the organizing team, WWF Chile reached out to us at Cultures Connection to provide them with high-quality and experienced interpreters, capable of translating from Spanish into English. Our interpreters flew in from Spain to assist in the panel entitled, Towards a Regional Front to Reduce the Risk of Collisions Between Maritime Ships and Whales in the Eastern Pacific. The panel’s goal? To highlight various initiatives being taken to protect humpback whale migration routes and reduce collisions with ships.
Cultures Connection’s professional interpreters provided simultaneous interpretation services. Unlike consecutive interpretation, during which speakers leave time for the interpreters to speak, simultaneous interpreting happens in real-time. This form of interpretation is well-suited for conferences and is therefore equally referred to as conference interpreting. As our interpreters do not need to interrupt conversation in order to interpret, communication flows naturally. To make this all possible, simultaneous interpreters require technical assistance. Cultures Connection’s own team provided our two professional interpreters with the necessary microphones and with 100 headsets. Audience members listen in with personal receivers to our interpreters, who are translating the panel as it is taking place.
Here at Cultures Connection, we are honored to have taken part is such an important event. As residents of Nice and the beautiful Côte d’Azur, we are equally passionate about preserving our oceans and sea-life. WWF Chile and the UNOC more broadly are doing important conservation work, and our professional interpreters are glad to have helped make it possible.
